'Sabrina The Teenage Witch' is getting a 'Riverdale'-style reboot

With a dark tone in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist

Sabrina the Teenage Witch is getting a reboot at The CW, and as if that were't amazing enough news, it's from the same producers who created Riverdale. Per Variety, The CW and Waner Bros Television are working on a new one-hour drama chronicling the adventures of Sabrina Spellman, with a dark tone in-keeping with Riverdale. The iconic fantasy sitcom, which ran for seven seasons beginning in 1996, was based on the Archie Comics series of the same name. The new series would be specifically based on the comic series 'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina', which (as the name suggests) is a pretty dark reimagining of the original. Described as being "tonally in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist" (which, yikes), the show will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal, while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit. The show hasn't been ordered to series yet, but its odds are good by virtue of executive producer Greg Berlanti, who has a bunch of shows on The CW including Riverdale, Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will serve as writer and executive producer, while regular Riverdale director Lee Toland Krieger will also direct and executive produce. So, two key questions: Who do you cast as Sabrina, and how long will it take for the Riverdale/Sabrina crossover to happen?
