We've all heard that staying fit is one of the most effective ways to stay healthy, but a new study has confirmed that one particular type of workout could be especially beneficial for your mental wellbeing.While anyone with less than perfect coordination might prefer to avoid sweating it out with front of a room full of strangers, it might be time to give a class like Zumba a try. It turns out group classes may give you a bigger boost than exercising alone, the Independent reports.In a 12-week study of 69 medical students, those who were asked to complete a 30-minute group class were found to have decreased stress levels and increased physical, mental and emotional wellbeing compared to volunteers who were asked to exercise alone or do no exercise at all. "Participation in regular group fitness classes led to a statistically significant decrease in perceived stress and an increase in physical, mental, and emotional quality of life compared with exercising regularly on one's own or not engaging in regular exercise," the study authors concluded in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.Excuse us, we're off to a spin class.
