The first trailer for the CW’s new ‘Charmed’ reboot is here

And it looks as spooky as the original

There’s a brand-new "Charmed" series heading to television this year, and the CW just released its first, super-sized trailer for the supernatural series. The Halliwell sisters are back, but this time they’re the Vera sisters, as played by Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery.According to a description from the network, the new sisters are “firebrand social justice warrior” Mel, “fun-loving” Maggie and “brilliant geneticist” Macy. The show kicks off when their mother, Marisol, dies mysteriously and Macy shows up at their front door, revealing Marisol kept her a secret all these years. Oh yeah, and after Marisol’s death, they all realize they have powers. Mel can freeze time, Maggie can hear other people’s thoughts and Macy has telekinesis. It turns out Marisol was a witch who had suppressed her daughter’s powers and was trying to release those powers the day she was murdered — by supernatural forces.“It’s a lot to take in, but ultimately the sisters accept their new destiny as The Charmed Ones…and their new duty to protect humankind from the demons that walk among us…one of whom killed their mother,” the network teased in a press release. “With the Power of Three, they are stronger together… even if they have no idea what they’re really up against.” Though the show seems promising, the original cast isn’t necessarily on board. Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty have spoken out against the idea, especially given the initial promo that it would be a “feminist” reboot — insinuating that the original wasn’t already super-feminist."Charmed" will air on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. on the CW. It’s unclear exactly when it will premiere, but the network said it’ll be sometime this fall.
