Beryl has become the first hurricane of the 2018 hurricane season.As of 11 a.m. Friday, the system has maximum sustained winds of 80 mph with higher gusts.The storm is moving toward the west near 15 mph and is about 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands.The National Hurricane Center says a fast westward to west-northwestward motion is expected through the weekend."As the hurricane nears the Caribbean Sea, it will encounter Saharan Dust and upper-level wind shear that will tear the system apart," said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann.By early next week, the system is expected to dissipate. Subtropical Storm Alberto became the first named storm of the 2018 season. It formed in May, just before the June 1 start of hurricane season. It dumped heavy rain on the southeastern United States.
