Anne Hathaway gave a much-needed update on the status of "Princess Diaries 3" during her appearance on "Watch What Happens Live" Thursday. There hadn't really been talk of the new addition to the 2001 and 2004 film series in the last year, however, in 2017, it was reported that there was a script and that Mandy Moore (Lana Thomas), Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz), Chris Pine (Nicholas Devereaux), Julie Andrews (Queen Clarisse Renaldi) and Hathaway (Mia Thermopolis) were all open to playing some part in it.
In her appearance Thursday, Hathaway reiterated that this is still very much an active project with a lot of passion behind it.
"There is a script for the third movie. That is so cute (the audience's reaction). There is a script,” she said. "I want to do it. Julie (Andrews) wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen. It’s just we don’t want to unless it’s perfect because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you, and we don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it so ..."
Andrews spoke with Buzzfeed about her interest in "Princess Diaries 3" in 2017. "Annie (Hathaway) had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I'm all for it, so if she'd like to," she said. Andrews also confirmed very directly she's in. "I would very willingly and happily do it."
