A Tuesday morning announcement regarding articles of impeachment led several Republican politicians to promptly continue defending President Donald Trump regarding the Democrats' impeachment inquiry.House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler announced articles of impeachment regarding obstruction of Congress and abuse of power. If the committee and House approve the articles, as is expected, it would go to a Senate trial, where Republicans have a majority."The announcement of two baseless articles of impeachment does not hurt the President, it hurts the American people, who expect their elected officials to work on their behalf to strengthen our Nation," said part of a statement by White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham. "The President will address these false charges in the Senate and expects to be fully exonerated, because he did nothing wrong."House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy criticized Democrats for their timeline, which he said was unfairly aimed at preventing the nation's voters from making their own choices in the 2020 election. "If they do not impeach him, they cannot beat him at the polls,'' said McCarthy, R-Calif.House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said in a tweet, "Dems unveiled their baseless, partisan articles of impeachment."They have no case for impeachment. No bribery. No quid pro quo. No abuse of power."The facts aren't on their side. This is a pathetic political mission to try to rig 2020 against" the president. U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, of Florida, said, "The next time someone says we need to 'abolish the #electoralcollege', remember today.
