Giuliani ordered to testify in Georgia 2020 election probe

the january 6th House Select Committee which is investigating the attack on the capitol building by trump supporters last year just held its fourth public hearing during which Russell Bowers, the republican speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives recounted how both donald trump and Rudy Giuliani pressured him to overturn the results of Arizona's presidential election during that conversation. Did um you will ask Mr Giuliani for proof of these allegations of fraud that he was making on multiple occasions. Yes. So Mr Giuliani was claiming the call that there were hundreds of thousands of undocumented people and thousands of dead people who had purportedly voted in the election. Yes. And you asked him for evidence of that? I did. And did he ever receive, did you ever receive from him that evidence either during the call after the call or to this day, many will recall how Arizona was one of the most controversial states with regards to the election with trump pushing election fraud claims on multiple occasions. There the votes were even recounted in several counties in the end, discovering more votes for biden rather than less. But Bowers then went on to say he never received any evidence of voter fraud from trump or Rudy Giuliani and they eventually came to him with another idea. Instead they wanted to remove the state's electors and replaced them with ones that wouldn't follow the vote for biden. And he pressed that point and I said, look, you are asking me to do something that is counter to my oath when I swore to the constitution to uphold it. And I also swore to the Constitution and the laws of the state of Arizona. And this is totally foreign. As an idea or theory. To me, you're asking me to do something against my oath, and I will not break my oath. Russell is one of few republicans to stand up to trump during his claims of election fraud, eventually blocking legislation in Arizona that would permit the state to overturn an election.

A judge in New York has ordered Rudy Giuliani to appear next month before a special grand jury in Atlanta that's investigating whether former President Donald Trump and others illegally tried to interfere in the 2020 general election in Georgia.New York Supreme Court Justice Thomas Farber on July 13 issued an order directing Giuliani, a Trump lawyer and former New York City mayor, to appear before the special grand jury on Aug. 9 and on any other dates ordered by the court in Atlanta, according to documents filed Wednesday in Fulton County Superior Court.Giuliani's lawyer did not immediately return a call and email seeking comment Wednesday.Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis began her investigation early last year, and a special grand jury with subpoena power was seated in May at her request. Others who have been subpoenaed have already filed challenges seeking to get out of appearing before the special grand jury.In the petition for Giuliani’s testimony, Willis identified him as both a personal attorney for Trump and a lead attorney for his campaign.She wrote that he and others presented a Georgia state Senate subcommittee with a video recording of election workers that Giuliani alleged showed them producing “suitcases” of unlawful ballots from unknown sources, outside the view of election poll watchers.Within 24 hours of the hearing on Dec. 3, 2020, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office had debunked the video and said that it had found that no voter fraud had taken place at the site. Nevertheless, Giuliani continued to make statements to the public and in subsequent legislative hearings claiming widespread voter fraud using that debunked video, Willis wrote.“There is evidence that (Giuliani’s) appearance and testimony at the hearing was part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere,” the petition says.
