2 NOPD officers given Narcan after touching bag covered in fentanyl
Two New Orleans police officers were administered Narcan after they were exposed to fentanyl on the job.
According to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, two New Orleans Police Department officers, who have not been identified, were investigating a bag at an undisclosed location three weeks ago.
Cantrell said the bag was covered in fentanyl.
According to Cantrell, both officers touched the bag and received Narcan before they were taken to an area hospital, where they recovered from the exposure.
Cantrell did not say that the officers overdosed but did confirm they were given Narcan for the exposure and were observed to make sure they had a full recovery.
Cantrell warned people to be cautious about picking up items like trash. She also encouraged people to wear gloves if they are handling items on the street.
