LDH Secretary Dr. Courtney Philips resigns
SOME NEAR RECORD HEAT RIGHT IN TIME FOR THE EASTER WEEKEND. SO TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT WE’RE DOING FOR THE NEAR RECORD HEAT OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. AND THE FORECAST TODAY IS 86. WE’VE DONE 85 ALL SHOW RECORD TODAY, 86 AT 2015, AND THAT’S THE SAME RECORDS AROUND 85, 86, THE NEXT TWO DAYS IN 2017. BY THURSDAY, TEMPERATURES DIPPED JUST ENOUGH THAT WE’RE GETTING OUT OF THAT NEAR RECORD HEAT. HEY, WE STARTED OFF WARM THIS MORNING RELATIVELY SPEAKING, LET’S SAY MILD, LOWER TO MID SEVENTIES WHERE WE BEGAN. WE’VE BEEN AS WARM AS 85 OFFICIALLY. SO FAR, 88 AND BOGALUSA REAL TIME TEMPS PRETTY CLOSE. WELL, IN FACT, BOGALUSA WE NEED TO BUMP THAT HIGH 88 TO 89. YOU’RE AWFULLY CLOSE TO 90. AND THE HUMIDITY THAT MADE A RETURN TO. I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THAT DRIER AIR YESTERDAY. DURING THE DAY WE TURNED LAST NIGHT WITH THE DEW POINTS BACK TO THE SEVENTIES. THAT BEST MEASURE HUMIDITY THE BREEZE UP TODAY TO A LITTLE WINDY WINDS AT ABOUT 1520 SOME GUSTS NEAR 30 AT TIMES THAT SAME CURRENTLY GUSTS ABOUT 20 TO 25. LET’S GET RIGHT INTO THE OVERVIEW FORECAST FOR US. WE’RE REALLY IN A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHING RIGHT HERE. WEAK SYSTEM, YESTERDAY’S OFF TO THE EAST. THE WARMTH, THE HUMIDITY HERE WE DO FIND, THOUGH, IS A VERY STRONG STORM. IT’S OVER THE WESTERN US AGAIN, POUNDING PARTS OF THE WEST WITH TONS OF SNOW YET AGAIN. FOUR AND A HALF FEET EXPECTED IN SOME PARTS OF UTAH. FRONT IS GOING TO NEAR FROM THAT SYSTEM, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GOING TO BE ONE OF THOSE FRONTS THAT NEARS IN FADES. BUT IT DOES BRING A RAIN CHANCE FOR US. IN THE MEANTIME, ALL THAT CLOUD COVER TONIGHT MEANS WE’VE GOT ANOTHER FOG POTENTIAL, MOSTLY MARINE FOG. THE WAY I’M SEEING THIS TOMORROW MORNING, SOME AREAS OF PATCHY FOG ONSHORE AIR TEMPERATURES MILD ONCE AGAIN INTO THE SEVENTIES TO BEGIN TUESDAY. HEY, THAT MORNING WALK WITH YOUR BEST FRIEND OR JUST OUT FOR A STROLL ENJOYING THE MORNING YOURSELF THE CLOUD COVER AND THE TEMPERATURES EASING THROUGH THE SEVENTIES AND UP NEAR 80 BY ABOUT MID-MORNING, PLENTY OF SUN AFTER THE LOW CLOUDS, THE FOG GOES AWAY IN THE MORNING HOURS AND IT’S WARM YET AGAIN NEAR RECORD WARMTH ALMOST JUST THE SAME AS TODAY. AND IT’S A LITTLE BIT WINDY TO THOSE WINDS WILL BE UP 15, 25 AND HIGHER GUSTS. SO WE’RE NEAR SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY CRITERIA. IT’S AT LEAST EXERCISE CAUTION. BE AWARE THAT THE MORNING FOG AND THE TIDAL RANGE HAS JUST GONE TO A MINIMUM. ANOTHER ROUND OF LOW CLOUDS. MORNING FOG ON WEDNESDAY. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REPEAT FORECAST. THERE’S THE FOG FORECAST AND LOW TEMPERATURES ONLY INTO THE 70. SO, I MEAN, THAT’S CLOSE TO TYPICAL HIGH TEMPERATURES FOR THE TIME OF THE YEAR. BUT BY WEDNESDAY, START TO SEE THAT FRONT CLOSING IN AND THERE IS A CHANCE THAT WE GET A MAYBE AN ISOLATED SCATTERED SHOWERS STORM WIDELY SCATTERED, ISOLATED, WIDELY SCATTERED STORM PREDICTION CENTERS PUT THIS UNDER THE VERY LOWEST LEVEL THREAT THAT IS THE FRONT COMES CLOSE TO THAT ONE OR TWO BECOME SEVERE. BUT I’M NOT REALLY SEEING IT. IT’S GOING TO BE WELL NORTH. WE SEE THE GREATEST RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS. AND CLOSER TO THE FRONT, IT’S STILL WINDY, WINDS UP 10 TO 20, HIGHER GUSTS AND IT’S STILL WARM MID EIGHTIES. BUT AS THAT FRONT EASES IN AND FADES AWAY, THIS IS THE ONE THAT’LL KEEP THE RAIN CHANCES IN THE MIX, AT LEAST THROUGH IN TO THE EASTER WEEKEND. NOW, THERE ARE SOME INDICATIONS BY THE TIME WE GET TO EASTER SUNDAY, THIS FORECAST WANTS TO MOVE THE RAIN AWAY. IF THAT FRONT SAGS FARTHER SOUTH. RIGHT NOW IT’S A WAIT AND SEE. BUT I THINK GOOD FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY COULD BE TWO OF THE STORM YEAR DAYS TO COME. WE’LL HOPE THAT TREND CONTINUES FOR THE ACTUAL EASTER SUNDAY ITSELF. KEEPING IT DRY. BUT WE DO KNOW IS THAT FRONT SETTIN

Gov. John Bel Edwards has announced that the Louisiana Department of Health secretary, Dr. Courtney N. Philips, has submitted her resignation. Her resignation is effective Thursday, April 6. LDH Director of Legal, Audit and Regulatory Affairs Stephen Russo, who has served LDH for 27 years and as executive counsel since 2008, will serve as secretary upon Sec. Phillips’ resignation.Philips has been secretary since April 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Edwards released the following statement: “Secretary Phillips is one of the hardest working, most capable, and most accomplished people I’ve ever met. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her decisive and thoughtful leadership saved lives. She spearheaded our response as we established an unprecedented mass testing program and innovative vaccine rollout and distribution program. Remarkably, she didn’t let the response to the COVID-19 emergency stop LDH from making progress on other important initiatives, like our work to improve health equity, address maternal mortality, and expand access to critical health services. I have no doubt she will continue her dedication to service in this next chapter for her and her family.”
