State Senate District 1 covers St. Tammany Parish, St. Bernard Parish and a sliver of New Orleans. The seat was held by Sharon Hewitt, who is running for governor. Republicans Ray Garofalo and Robert "Bob" Owen are the two candidates who qualified for the seat. Candidates talked about their plans to solve the insurance crises, the looming fiscal cliff, and the coast flood plan. Election day is Oct. 14.
