PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER MIKE NEELY. 136 YEARS AGO, WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST PUT HIS NAME ON THE MASTHEAD OF THE SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER. SINCE THEN, HEARST, THE PARENT COMPANY OF WDSU, HAS GROWN FROM A SINGLE NEWSPAPER INTO ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST PRIVATE INFORMATION AND MEDIA COMPANIES. FROM THE BEGINNING, MR. HEARST ENCOURAGED THE COMPANY’S NEWSPAPER AND LATER ELECTRONIC MEDIA TO TAKE POSITIONS ON IMPORTANT LOCAL ISSUES. I NOW HAVE THE GREAT PRIVILEGE OF SERVING AS THE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF THE OLDEST TV STATION IN ALL OF LOUISIANA, AND I WILL BEGIN SHARING THE OPINIONS OF THE WDSU EDITORIAL BOARD ON A REGULAR BASIS. THE BOARD’S MISSION IS SIMPLE TO SERVE THE PUBLIC INTEREST. TO MAKE THIS A BETTER PLACE. THE BOARD’S OPINIONS ARE VETTED, SELECTED AND PRODUCED ENTIRELY SEPARATE FROM OUR NEWSCAST. THE EDITORIAL BOARD WILL TAKE A STAND ON ISSUES AND ENCOURAGE THOUGHT ABOUT LIFE AROUND US. One hundred and thirty six years ago William Randolph Hearst put his name on the masthead of the San Francisco Examiner. Since then, Hearst, the parent company of WDSU, has grown from a single newspaper into one of the world's largest private information and media companies. From the beginning Mr. Hearst encouraged the company's newspapers and later electronic media to take positions on important local issues. I now have the great privilege of serving as the President and General Manager of the oldest TV station in all of Louisiana, and will begin sharing the opinions of the WDSU Editorial Board on a regular basis.The Board's mission is simple – to serve the public interest, to make this a better place. The Board's opinions are vetted, selected, and produced entirely separate from our newscasts.The Editorial Board will take a stand on issues and encourage thought about life around us. And since editorials are meant to provoke community conversation our Board wants your thoughts and welcomes your feedback.
