A bitter, winter wind is enough to drive some people indoors, but not these two. These intrepid hobbyists would take their boats down to the lake in the '90s to capture the cold breeze. Frozen water didn't stop them. It was exactly what they were hoping for.
You need a large, frozen expanse if you're going to go ice boating.
Their vessels rode the wind across the ice-bound lake, sometimes reaching speeds of 50 mph. The boats had skis so they could glide over the ice. They were difficult to steer...and even more difficult to keep upright.
