THIS IS A WDSU EDITORIAL WITH PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER MIKE NEELY. CAITLIN CLARK, SHE’S NOT ON THE US OLYMPIC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM, AND IT’S BECOME A POLARIZING TOPIC. SOME SAY SHE’S BEEN SNUBBED, OTHERS FEEL SHE DOESN’T DESERVE TO GO. THE ARGUMENTS AGAINST CLARK GOING TO PARIS, SHE’S A ROOKIE IN THE WNBA AND THE OTHER 12 WOMEN PICKED TO PLAY FOR TEAM USA ARE BETTER, MORE EXPERIENCE PLAYERS. THERE’S ALSO CHATTER SHE WOULD BE A BACKUP AND HER LARGE LEGION OF FANS WOULDN’T ACCEPT THAT. ALL LEGITIMATE POINTS IF YOU FEEL TEAM USA MADE THE RIGHT CALL. BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE UPSET, CLARK WAS LEFT OFF. THERE’S ALSO A BONA FIDE DEBATE. SHE’S THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE FEMALE PLAYER ON THE PLANET, THE GREATEST COLLEGE PLAYER EVER, AND HER POPULARITY, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, IS HELPING LEAD THE WNBA TO NEW HEIGHTS. SOLD OUT STADIUMS, OUT OF STOCK JERSEYS. OVERALL INTEREST IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH, AND CAITLIN CLARK’S PRETTY GOOD AND MIGHT EVEN BE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. BUT TEAM USA IS NOT A WNBA ALL STAR TEAM. IT HAS THE BEST PLAYERS TO REPRESENT US AMERICAN CITIZENS IN THE LARGEST SPORTING EVENT IN THE WORLD. SOME FEEL CAITLIN CLARK IS THE EPITOME OF AN AMERICAN PLAYER. OTHERS SAY SHE HASN’T EARNED THAT SPOT YET. REGARD GARDLESS OF WHERE YOU STAND. THIS DEBATE PROVES THERE’S NO DOUBT WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS SKYROCKETED IN POPULARITY. AND IT’S NOT JUST BECAUSE OF CAITLIN CLARK. SHE PLAYS AN IMPORTANT PART, BUT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE ALSO HELPED PAVE THE WAY TO ELEVATE THE SPORT. THANKS TO CAITLIN. AND HOW ABOUT THOSE LADY GEAUX FOR LEADING THE WAY? WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS
