FIRST WARNING METEOROLOGIST DEREK SIBLEY, WHO’S TRACKING BERYL. GOOD MORNING DEREK. ALL RIGHT. GOOD MORNING DARRYL. YEAH, WE ARE TRACKING BERYL FOR SURE AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE INLAND OVER TEXAS. AND WE’RE ALSO TALKING ABOUT SOME HEAT ALERTS HERE LOCALLY. ONCE AGAIN, WE MAY EVEN SEE SOME OF THE OUTER EFFECTS FROM BERYL HERE AS WE HEAD INTO TOMORROW. LET’S GET A LOOK AT BERYL HERE FIRST JUST TO START US OFF. AND YOU CAN SEE THAT INFRARED IMAGERY LOOKS RATHER IMPRESSIVE AS IT CONTINUES TO MAKE ITS WAY ACROSS THE TEXAS COAST. NOW MOVING INLAND AND PUSHING CLOSER AND CLOSER TOWARDS HOUSTON. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE SATELLITE AND THE RADAR. LOTS OF HEAVY WEATHER AS FAR AS THE HEAVY RAIN AND HEAVY WIND IS CONCERN ACROSS MUCH OF THE TEXAS COASTLINE. AS THIS CONTINUES TO MOVE ITS WAY INLAND, IT MADE LANDFALL OVER MATAGORDA, TEXAS, AND THE EYE, EVEN THOUGH IT’S INLAND NOW, IS STILL RATHER WELL DEFINED. THERE’S HOUSTON AND THEY’RE GETTING NAILED RIGHT NOW WITH SOME HEAVY RAIN AND SOME VERY GUSTY WINDS. AND SO WAS GALVESTON. HERE RIGHT NOW AT THE MOMENT AS WELL. LACE ADVISORY AS OF 6:00. MOVING NORTH AT 12 WINDS AT 80 MILES AN HOUR. IT’S GOING TO CONTINUE TO WEAKEN THOUGH AS IT CONTINUES MOVING INLAND DOWN TO A TROPICAL STORM AS EARLY AS THE SOUTH FOR NOON AND THEN WEAKENING TO A TROPICAL DEPRESSION HERE BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON. HEADING INTO THE MID WESTERN UNITED STATES HEADING INTO WEDNESDAY, WHILE WEAKENING TO A REMNANT AREA OF LOW PRESSURE BUT STILL CAUSING SOME RAIN. MEANWHILE, TEMPERATURES FOR US TODAY ARE GOING TO BE THE MAIN STORY. RIGHT NOW WE’RE IN THE 70S AND LOWER 80S HIGHS TODAY, PICKING UP INTO THE MID 90S UNDER BREEZY CONDITIONS HERE THIS AFTERNOON. TOO HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY ACROSS THE SOUTH SHORE. LOW TO MID 90S. SLIGHT CHANCE OF A SHOWER OR STORM, BUT REALLY THE MAIN FOCUS WILL BE THE TEMPERATURES WITH SOME CLOUD COVER THIS AFTERNOON. Beryl made landfall Monday morning as a hurricane along the Texas coast. Southeast Louisiana will not see direct impacts from the storm but should start feeling some outer effects early this week.Here is the latest forecast track from the National Hurricane Center.The tail end of the system could cause showers and thunderstorms over southeast Louisiana on Tuesday as shown below.Coastal impacts will also take shape from strong onshore flow off the Gulf from Beryl. This could lead to some minor coastal flooding and breezy conditions. Coastal Flood Advisories are in effect until 3 p.m. Tuesday.The WDSU First Warning Weather team will continue to monitor this storm.
