WDSU.COM. 1215 HERE’S A PEEK FOR YOU OUTSIDE ON THE WDSU FIRST WARNING WEATHER IMPACT DAY OF VERY SIMILAR SCENE JIM, TO WHAT WE WERE SEEING YESTERDAY. YOU CAN KIND OF JUST FEEL THE HEAT COMING OFF OF THE CITY, SO TO SPEAK, YOU KNOW, AND TODAY IS REALLY PLAYING OUT WEATHER WISE, A LOT LIKE YESTERDAY. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BEGINNING EARLY, GETTING MORE NUMEROUS BY THE LATE MORNING AND AFTERNOON. BUT THINGS ARE GOING TO BE GETTING EVEN WETTER FOR US BY THE END OF THE WEEK. WDSU FIRST WARNING RADAR SHOWING YOU A SHOWER MOVING INTO THE GULFPORT AREA. YOU SAW THE LIVE CAMERA BEHIND ME. NOW YOU SEE THE SHOWER AS WE ZOOM IN. THAT RAIN JUST ABOUT TO MAKE ITS WAY INTO GULFPORT. NOT A MAJOR THUNDERSTORM, THE MAJOR THUNDERSTORMS. AND I SAY MAJOR, I THINK IS PROBABLY A STRETCH, BUT ACTIVE THUNDERSTORMS YOU CAN SEE ON THE NORTH SHORE, BOGALUSA, YOU’RE GETTING A THUNDERSTORM RIGHT NOW. GIVE IT ANOTHER TEN 15 MINUTES. I THINK THE WEATHER SHOULD BE GETTING BETTER FOR YOU AND THEN SHOWERS A BIT MORE BROKEN AS WE GO FARTHER TO THE SOUTH. BUT I THINK HOUMA, YOU’RE PROBABLY GOING TO GET SOME RAIN AFTER 1:00, AND WE’RE LIKELY GOING TO SEE A FEW MORE SHOWERS DEVELOP. AS A MATTER OF FACT, AS WE SAY THAT THERE’S ONE DEVELOPING RIGHT IN THE CENTER OF YOUR SCREEN THAT MAY BE AFFECTING KENNER IN THE NEXT 15 TO 20 MINUTES OR SO, WE’LL ZOOM IN ON THAT ONE COMING UP IN JUST ABOUT TEN MINUTES. 93 IN BOGALUSA, 87 IN HAMMOND, 89 IN SLIDELL. SOME OF THESE TEMPERATURES ON THE NORTH SHORE A BIT RAIN COOLED RIGHT NOW. BUT THAT HEAT ADVISORY OFFICIALLY IN EFFECT UNTIL 7:00 TODAY. YOUR CURRENT CONDITIONS AT LOUIS ARMSTRONG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. AND SPEAKING OF LOUIS, WE ARE JUST ABOUT TWO WEEKS AWAY FROM SATCHMO SUMMERFEST AT THE JAZZ MUSEUM. FREE ADMISSION THIS YEAR. DEW POINT AT 78, A HIGH DEW POINT. OUR DEW POINT MAY ACTUALLY COME DOWN A LITTLE BIT BY THE WEEKEND, BUT IT DOESN’T CHANGE OUR WEATHER, REALLY, THAT MUCH. WE’RE GOING TO HAVE THIS COLD FRONT AND YES, A COLD FRONT. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A COLD FRONT IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY. THIS LOW PASSES TO THE NORTH OF US, BRINGS THE COLD FRONT TO US, BUT IT’S GOING TO STICK AROUND FOR THE WEEKEND, MAKING THINGS KIND OF WET. TROPIC WATCH IN THE GULF OF MEXICO. IT’S PRETTY QUIET. CARIBBEAN IS REMARKABLY QUIET, AND WE’VE HAD A COUPLE OF TROPICAL WAVES THAT LOOK KIND OF HEALTHY COMING OFF THE COAST OF AFRICA. BUT REMEMBER, THERE’S STILL THAT VERY DRY AIR IN PLACE, THAT SAHARAN DUST. IF YOU WILL. I EVEN LOOKED AT THE TEN DAY OUTLOOK AND THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER SAYS THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS, NOT EXPECTING ANY DEVELOPMENT. I LOOKED AT THE TEN DAY OUTLOOK, NO DEVELOPMENT THERE EITHER. SO THE TROPICS ARE QUIET AND I’M NOT GOING TO JINX US. I’M NOT GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT ANY MORE. THIS IS THE WAY IT PLAYS OUT FOR US THIS AFTERNOON. SHOWERS, THUNDERSTORMS GETTING A BIT MORE NUMEROUS. REMEMBER HOW I MENTIONED KENNER? LOOKS LIKE THEY’RE PROBABLY GOING TO GET SOME RAIN. 233 330 OR SO. MORE SHOWERS MOVING THROUGH, BUT BY 730 8:00 A LOT LIKE YESTERDAY. THE RAIN SHOULD BE WRAPPING UP THURSDAY. HOWEVER, SOME SHOWERS CLOSE TO THE COAST IN THE MORNING AND LOOK HOW MORE NUMEROUS THE SHOWERS ARE BY THE EARLY AFTERNOON. GETTING INTO THE MID AFTERNOON. IT’S GOING TO BE A RELATIVELY WET DAY. THURSDAY AND THEN EVEN WETTER FRIDAY AND SATURDAY BECAUSE HERE’S THE FRONT. LET’S GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE WEEKEND FRIDAY FRONT BECOMING STATIONARY. SATURDAY FRONT HANGING AROUND SUNDAY FRONT HANGING AROUND EVEN INTO MONDAY. THINGS LOOK WET FOR US. MONDAY AND TUESDAY ACTUALLY HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT TODAY. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS HIGH IN THE MID 90S. THEN TONIGHT SHOWERS SHOULD BE ENDING ABOUT 730. WARM HUMID MORNING TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 70S ON THE NORTH SHORE. WARMER ELSEWHERE. COASTAL RAIN TOMORROW THEN NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH A CHANCE FOR RAIN AT 70%. AND THEN 80% OFF AND ON RAIN FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, MONDAY, TUESDAY. BUT A LITTLE BIT COOLER THANKS TO THE RAIN. THAT’

Wondering why the tropics are so quiet right now after Beryl? It's simple. It all has to do with dust. Very dry air mixed with dust from the Sahara has come off the coast of Africa and it looks like that will continue to be the case for the next seven days. This dust is keep to minimizing tropical development in the Atlantic and the Gulf. So, it's a good thing. We may even see the dust in the air. You'll see it in the sunrises and sunsets. This dry air usually suppresses tropical activity, and will also help to keep waters a bit cooler. Because that dust is in the air, it's slowing down how much the water heats up. These plumes are common about now.For the next seven days, the tropics will stay quiet. We'll continue to track that Saharan dust to see how it impacts the rest of our season. We're still just getting started.
