New Orleans East residents concerned over sinking sidewalk
517. NOW, A SINKING SIDEWALK IN NEW ORLEANS EAST HAS A LONGTIME RESIDENT REACHING OUT TO THE ROAD PATROL FOR HELP. HE’S CONCERNED THAT FOUNDATION OF HIS HOME MAY BE COMPROMISED. WDSU TRAFFIC ANCHOR DEJA BROWN HAS MORE ON HIS EFFORTS TO GET THE SEWAGE AND WATER BOARD TO TAKE ACTION BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. THE SIDEWALK WAS HERE AND EVERYTHING STARTED FALLING THIS WAY, AND AS YOU CAN SEE, IT’S DIPPING AND THE LINE IS RUNNING HERE OUT TO THE STREET. TIMOTHY TIRRO HAS BEEN LIVING HAPPILY ON SIERRA MADRE DRIVE IN NEW ORLEANS EAST FOR 30 YEARS, BUT FOR THE PAST 11 MONTHS, HE’S BEEN DEALING WITH AN ISSUE. I NOTICED THE SIDEWALK HAD STARTED SINKING BACK IN AUGUST. THAT’S WHEN I INITIALLY CALLED. HE REACHED OUT TO THE SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD AUGUST 14TH OF LAST YEAR. I TALKED OF SIX CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS. NOBODY COULD TELL ME WHAT THE STATUS IS. EVENTUALLY, THE SEWAGE AND WATER BOARD SENT OUT A CREW IN MARCH, BLUE FLASH CAME OUT. THAT’S A COMPANY THAT SEWAGE AND WATER BOARD CONTRACTS WITH. THE DO VIDEOS. SO THEY DID THE VIDEO. THEY SAID THEY HAD A BREAKAGE AND THEY HAD THE BREAKAGE IN THE STREET. SEWAGE AND WATER BOARD VIDEO SPECIALIST CAME OUT ALSO INDICATED THAT THEY HAD A BREAKAGE IN THE STREET. I HAD MY OWN PLUMBING COMPANY COME OUT, DO A VIDEO BREAKAGE IN THE STREET. A PLUMBER TOLD ME THAT I HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF MOVING THEN THEM COMING OUT AND FIXING THE STREET, HE SAYS. EACH TIME HE CALLS, ALL HE’S TOLD IS THAT THEY’RE ESCALATING THE WORK ORDER. IT SAID IT’S A MANAGEMENT PROBLEM. IT’S NOT THE WORKERS, BECAUSE THE WORKERS ARE ONLY COMING OUT HERE AND DOING WHAT THEY’RE TOLD TO DO. ARE YOU NERVOUS THAT THE FOUNDATION OF YOUR HOUSE MAY BE COMPROMISED? CORRECT? YEAH, I’M VERY WORRIED. THAT’S WHY I’VE BEEN ON A BUT ABOUT GETTING IT DONE. BECAUSE IT COULD BE HOLLOW UNDERNEATH AND AND AND THEY THE SAD THING ABOUT IT, THEY KNOW IT’S AN ISSUE. BUT THEY WON’T COME OUT AND FIX IT FOR WDSU TRAFFIC ROAD PATROL. I’M DEJA BROWN SO WE DID REACH OUT TO THE SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD AND THEY SENT US A STATEMENT SAYING THAT A WORK ORDER FOR REPAIRS WAS CREATED ON SIX SIX OF 2024. THEY BELIEVE THAT THE NEW WORK ORDER WILL LEAD TO A LOT OF WILL HELP WITH THAT AREA. THEY ALSO SAY THAT THEY ARE GOING TO MONITOR THE WORK ORDER AS CREWS ARE ASSIGNED TO REPAIR THAT AREA, AND THEY TELL US THIS IS ALL SCHEDUL
