Biden posted *** statement on x formerly known as Twitter Sunday afternoon saying quote, while it has been my intention to seek re election, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term. This comes after facing daily pressure from members within his own party to end his bid amid concerns about his candidacy following *** poor debate performance against former president Donald Trump Biden now backing Vice President Kamala Harris to be the nominee of the party, offering his full support saying, quote, Democrats, it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this. That would be *** historic nomination making Harris the first black woman to lead *** major party presidential ticket Harris saying in *** statement, she's honored to have Biden's endorsement, will work to earn and win this nomination and will do everything in her power to unite the Democratic party and unite our nation.

President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he would not seek reelection, a last-minute decision that will send shock waves across the 2024 presidential race.In his statement, which he released on social media, Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him as the Democratic nominee.Biden's decision to drop out has drawn reactions from political leaders, including his former opponent and the Republican nominee, former President Donald Trump."Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t."Biden's fitness for a potential second term was put under a microscope following his poor debate performance last month, during which the president seemed to slur his words and struggle to express coherent arguments at times.Trump finished his statement on Biden's exit from the race by talking about immigration."And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly.
