Lafourche residents asked to conserve water due to oil spill in Bayou Lafourche

Lafourche residents asked to conserve water due to oil spill in Bayou Lafourche
DEVELOPING RIGHT NOW AT TEN. CREWS ARE WORKING TO CLEAN UP AN OIL SPILL IN BAYOU LAFOURCHE. AND IF YOU LIVE NEARBY THAT SCENE AND RACELAND, YOU ARE BEING ASKED TO CONSERVE YOUR WATER RIGHT NOW, WE ARE TOLD THE OIL HAS BEEN CONTAINED, BUT IT IS STILL AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION AND WDSU REPORTER ANUM SIDDIQUI IS IN LAFOURCHE WITH THE MESSAGE FROM OFFICIALS AND THE CONCERN TONIGHT FROM RESIDENTS. CRUISE RIDE DOWN BAYOU LAFOURCHE ON DARK CRUDE OIL. FROM WHAT I SEE, IT’S NOT LOOKING GOOD. IT DIDN’T SCARE ME, BUT I KNEW IT WAS REAL SERIOUS. PARISH OFFICIALS CONFIRM AN OIL SPILL INTO THE BAYOU COMES FROM A LEAK INSIDE THE CRESCENT MIDSTREAM. CRUDE OIL FACILITY IN RACELAND. MIKE SMITH WITH THE FACILITY SAYS THE CAUSE AND HOW MUCH OIL GOT OUT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. WE OBVIOUSLY REGRET THAT THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED, AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY OUR COMMITMENT TO MAKE IT RIGHT AS SOON AS WE POSSIBLY CAN. IT’S UNCLEAR OF ANY LEGAL ACTION. I THINK WHEN THE STATE AND THE FEDERAL PARTNERS GET THROUGH WITH THEIR INVESTIGATION ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED, WE’LL SEE SOME TYPE OF ACTOR ACTORS AND REPORT AND THEN THE FINES AND PENALTIES WILL COME AFTER THAT. PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE AREA REPORTED THE UNUSUAL SIGHTS. AROUND 8 A.M., CREWS CONTAINED THE SPILL IN TWO HOURS. I GOT UP THIS MORNING. I WAS HEADED TO MY BORN AND DO MY REGULAR ROUTINE, AND I NOTICED WHEN I PULL UP OUT THE STREET, I LOOKED AT THE BAYOU AND I THOUGHT IT WAS REAL, REAL DARK. AND LATELY WE’VE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF RAIN AND I KNEW THAT WAS UNUSUAL. THIS SHEEN OF OIL. YOU’RE LOOKING AT IN THE BAYOU STRETCHES FOR THREE MILES ALONG LA ONE AND HIGHWAY 90. PARISH OFFICIALS SAY THEY’VE DEALT WITH SMALL SPILLS, BUT NEVER TO THIS EXTENT. THIS MAY ACTUALLY LOOK WORSE BEFORE IT LOOKS BETTER. THE CURRENT ACTUALLY FLOWS SOUTH, SO THE THE OIL WILL BEGIN TO POOL WHERE THE CONTAINMENT BOOMS ARE. RIGHT. SO IF YOU SEE A A PLUME THAT LOOKS LIKE IT’S GROWING OR SOMETHING THAT LOOKS A LITTLE OFF, LIKE SOMETHING’S GETTING WORSE, THAT’S ACTUALLY A GOOD THING. WHILE DRINKING WATER IS SAFE, RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO CONSERVE WATER OUT OF PRECAUTION. WE’RE JUST ASKING THE PUBLIC TO REALLY JUST CONSERVE A LITTLE BIT OF WATER JUST IN CASE WE HAVE TO SHUT THINGS DOWN FOR FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. WE HAVE ENOUGH WATER WITHIN THE CLEAR WELLS AND WITHIN THE TANKS TO BE ABLE TO SUPPLY THAT. ANUM SIDDIQUI, WDSU NEWS. ANUM. THANK YOU. AND OF COURSE WE WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP YOU UPDATED ON THIS DEVELOPING SITUATION.
