New Orleans police investigating shooting in Mid-City
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a woman Sunday morning in Mid-City.
The shooting happened in the 500 block of South Scott Street around 2:30 a.m.
According to police, a woman inside a home was shot and taken to an area hospital by EMS.
The homeowner, who had rented out her property, found herself in the middle of a crime scene.
The aftermath of the shooting was a disturbing sight, with smashed glass, shattered windows, and bullet holes marking the property on South Scott Street.
"I'm from New York, I know what a shot is. It was out of a semi-automatic I would say, a bunch in a row. We jumped out of bed, and immediately called 911," said Felicia Cresci, the homeowner.
Cresci had rented out her short-term rental to a New Orleans family for a slumber party. However, the gathering quickly spiraled out of control, turning into a scene of gunfire.
"There were more people than we anticipated and now the girls are screaming, the place was trashed. Blood, broken glass all over. We go upstairs and on the bed is a young lady, hysterical crying, she has a wound in her thigh," Cresci said.
The incident has left Cresci questioning her decision to rent out her property to locals in the future.
"Yeah, because it doesn't make sense, why would you? And it all happened so quickly," Cresci said.
The shooting has left the neighborhood on edge, with residents still trying to come to terms with the violence that erupted on their street.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
