New Orleans police investigating shooting in Mid-City
MEANTIME, COURTNEY, ONE WOMAN IS RECOVERING RIGHT NOW AS NEIGHBORS ARE STILL TRYING TO PROCESS WHAT HAPPENED AFTER SHOTS RANG OUT ON THEIR MID-CITY STREET LAST NIGHT. WE SPOKE TO THE HOMEOWNER WHO RENTED OUT HER PROPERTY THAT TURNED INTO THE SCENE OF A SHOOTING AND A WARNING. SOME OF YOU MIGHT FIND THE SIGHTS AND THE SOUNDS IN THIS STORY DISTURBING. SMASHED GLASS, SHATTERED WINDOWS AND BULLET HOLES. THESE ARE THE REMNANTS OF A SHOOTING THAT ERUPTED ALONG SOUTH SCOTT STREET EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. ONE NEIGHBOR CAPTURED THE SOUND OF GUNFIRE AS OTHERS WOKE UP TO IT. I’M FROM NEW YORK, SO YOU KNOW, I KNOW WHAT A SHOT IS AND YOU KNOW IT WOULD LIKE IT WAS OUT OF A SEMIAUTOMATIC. I WOULD SAY IT WOULD JUST BUNCH IN A ROW. WE JUMPED OUT OF BED AND I IMMEDIATELY, EVEN BEFORE GOING NEXT DOOR CALLED 911. THAT IS FELICIA CHRISTIE, WHO TELLS US SHE RENTED OUT HER SHORT TERM RENTAL TO A NEW ORLEANS FAMILY FOR A SLUMBER PARTY. BUT IT GOT OUT OF HAND, TURNING INTO THE SCENE OF SHOTS FIRED. THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE THAN WE HAD ANTICIPATED AT THAT POINT, AND NOW THE GIRLS ARE SCREAMING. EVERYBODY’S FRANTIC. IT’S PANICKING. THE PLACE WAS TRASHED. THERE’S BLOOD, BROKEN GLASS ALL OVER EVERYTHING AND GO UPSTAIRS AND ON THE BED. IS THIS YOUNG, YOUNG LADY AND SHE’S HYSTERICAL, CRYING AND ALL, AND SHE’S GOT A WOUND IN HER THIGH. AND NOW THE OWNER OF THIS HOME IS QUESTIONING IF SHE WILL RENT TO LOCALS AGAIN. YEAH, BECAUSE IT DOESN’T REALLY MAKE SENSE. WHY WOULD YOU? AND AGAIN, IT ALL HAPPENED SO QUICKLY. POLICE HAVE TOLD US THAT WOMAN WHO WAS SHOT AND HURT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THEY DIDN’T HAVE ANY OTH

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a woman Sunday morning in Mid-City. The shooting happened in the 500 block of South Scott Street around 2:30 a.m. According to police, a woman inside a home was shot and taken to an area hospital by EMS. The homeowner, who had rented out her property, found herself in the middle of a crime scene. The aftermath of the shooting was a disturbing sight, with smashed glass, shattered windows, and bullet holes marking the property on South Scott Street."I'm from New York, I know what a shot is. It was out of a semi-automatic I would say, a bunch in a row. We jumped out of bed, and immediately called 911," said Felicia Cresci, the homeowner.Cresci had rented out her short-term rental to a New Orleans family for a slumber party. However, the gathering quickly spiraled out of control, turning into a scene of gunfire."There were more people than we anticipated and now the girls are screaming, the place was trashed. Blood, broken glass all over. We go upstairs and on the bed is a young lady, hysterical crying, she has a wound in her thigh," Cresci said.The incident has left Cresci questioning her decision to rent out her property to locals in the future."Yeah, because it doesn't make sense, why would you? And it all happened so quickly," Cresci said.The shooting has left the neighborhood on edge, with residents still trying to come to terms with the violence that erupted on their street. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
