Vice President Kamala Harris has a lead over former President Donald Trump, according to a national UMass Amherst/WCVB poll.The survey asked a representative sample of 1,000 people nationwide about the upcoming presidential election, and 46% said they were leaning toward voting for Harris, the Democrat; 43% said they were leaning toward Trump, the Republican; and 6% said they were leaning toward Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent.The previous national UMass Amherst/WCVB poll, conducted in January, found that President Joe Biden trailed Trump by 4%. Moderates were a crucial part of the change, with 50% of them supporting Harris in the new poll as compared to the 38% who supported Biden in the January edition. This poll was conducted between July 29 and Aug. 1, less than two weeks after Biden dropped out of the race and helped to rally the party behind Harris. The margin of error in this poll is 3.8%. Her campaign is planning to launch a tour of seven battleground states on Tuesday.
