Team USA was on the cusp of winning a bronze medal when pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik was the last to perform. He removed his glasses like Clark Kent and performed a flawless routine, earning a score of 14.866. His high score secured the bronze medal for the Team USA men, their first since the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
Nedoroscik's iconic performance immediately went viral on YouTube and TikTok and earned him nicknames like "Team USA's Clark Kent" and the "pommel horse hero."

After qualifying in fifth place, the U.S. men ended a 16-year medal drought with a third-place finish.
The American men finished with a total of 257.793 points to come out ahead of Team Great Britain for the bronze.

Simone Biles begins her Olympic comeback with a triumph
After withdrawing from multiple events in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to mental health ailments, Simone Biles' Olympic future was up in the air until she announced she would be returning for Paris.
She competed in the women's team event final on July 30 and posted high scores on all four apparatuses, helping her team secure a win.

Suni Lee's unforgettable return
Tokyo 2020's all-around champion Suni Lee was also unsure of her Olympic future after being diagnosed with two kidney diseases last year. She had to take six months off of training for her medical treatment.
She became a champion once again during the team event with solid performances on uneven bars, balance beam and the floor exercise.

Back on top after winning silver in 2020, Team USA's women won gold medals in the team event with a total score of 171.296. Italy took second place and Brazil came in third.
This gold medal brought Simone Biles to her eighth Olympic medal, breaking Shannon Miller's record of seven. This event made her the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympics.

Biles won another gold medal, bringing her Olympic total to nine, and Lee brought home a bronze in the women's all-around final. This is Biles' second individual all-around title, she won the event in Rio in 2016 as well.
After the final scores were announced, the pair took the floor of the arena with an American flag, enjoying the triumph for both athletes with a memorable celebration.

Jade Carey returns to the podium with a bronze in vault
Jade Carey saw immense success in Tokyo with a gold medal in the floor exercise. However, after falling in the floor event during the Paris 2024 qualifiers, she did not advance to the floor final — an event she was a medal contender for.
However, thanks to her stellar performance in the individual vault final, the 24-year-old secured a podium spot. She won a bronze medal with a score of 14.466.

Earning a massive score of 15.300, Biles completed one of the most difficult vaults in the world, the Yurchenko double pike. This vault is so difficult that Biles, the originator of the element, is the only competing gymnast who can perform it, which is why it is also known as the Biles II. This awe-inspiring vault brought her to the top of the podium once again, giving her another gold and her 10th Olympic medal.

Lee captured another medal in the individual uneven bars event, bringing her Olympic medal total to six, putting her in a tie with Aly Raisman for the third-most decorated American Olympic gymnast of all time.
