Louisiana Democratic delegates tell WDSU their party is getting reinvigorated ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
With Vice President Kamala Harris' pick of Tim Walz as her running mate, leaders are rallying around the ticket.
State Rep. Mandi Landry described him as "America's Dad" with his likeability and normalness.
"You know, he had military background back in the day with the National Guard," Landry said. "He was a teacher, which people can relate to. And then you look at how he was a member of Congress in a Republican district, which is wild, and then went straight from there to governor. To me, all this shows that people like him and trust him, like his people trust him."
State Rep. Delisha Boyd echoes that sentiment, telling WDSU his platform is one that fights for educators, women's reproductive rights and health care. Those are also key issues important to her.
"He fights tirelessly for all racial issues, women, reproductive rights. He's proven that he stands with educators and trying to get them more funding not only for schools, but also teacher pay raises, all the things that are near and dear to us."
The Louisiana delegates are preparing to pack the DNC, which is set to begin Aug. 19 in Chicago.
