LOOK AT THAT NICE SUNRISE POPPING UP BEHIND YOU THERE. IT’S LOOKING GOOD OUTSIDE ACROSS MOST OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA. SOME OF THOSE HIGH CIRRUS CLOUDS ARE OUT THERE CREATING SOME OF THE COLORS THAT YOU SEE ALL ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA THIS MORNING. SO GOOD MORNING. IF YOU HAVEN’T OPEN YOUR CURTAINS YET, YOU’RE MISSING OUT ON SOME PRETTY GOOD SIGHTS. LET ME TAKE YOU TO THE TROPICS AND SHOW YOU WHAT’S GOING ON OUT HERE. AND OVERALL, THE NEWS IS GOOD. WE’VE WE’VE GOT OUR EYES ON THIS TROPICAL WAVE THAT’S SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES WEST OF THE CABO VERDE ISLANDS. AND THAT’S GOT SOME POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT NEXT WEEK. AND I’LL SHOW YOU MORE ABOUT THAT IN A MOMENT. BUT OTHERWISE, THE ATLANTIC, THE CARIBBEAN AND THE GULF OF MEXICO ARE NICE AND QUIET. NOT EXPECTING MUCH OF A CHANGE TO ANY OF THOSE AREAS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. WE ARE STILL FOLLOWING WHAT USED TO BE A HURRICANE OR TROPICAL STORM DEBBY, NOW TROPICAL DEPRESSION, AS IT CONTINUES TO MAKE ITS WAY TO THE NORTH AND TO THE NORTHEAST. SO YOU SEE ALL THESE SYMBOLS HERE. THOSE ARE ALL FLOODING REPORTS THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE ACROSS PARTS OF VIRGINIA INTO PENNSYLVANIA AS WELL. AND THE I’M SURE YOU RECOGNIZE THE TORNADO REPORTS THAT ARE OUT THERE, ALL THIS AREA THAT SHADED IN YELLOW IS UNDER A TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 2:00 THIS AFTERNOON. AND THIS STORM IS EXPECTED TO MAKE ITS WAY ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE COUNTRY, DROPPING A LOT OF RAINFALL AS IT MAKES ITS WAY IN THAT DIRECTION. BUT THAT THAT’S THE BAD NEWS. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT’S MOVING AT 35MPH. NOW, YESTERDAY WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HOW IT WAS MOVING FROM 5 TO 7MPH. SO A BIG CHANGE THERE. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAVE AS MUCH OF AN OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE FLOODING PROBLEMS ACROSS THE REST OF THAT REGION OVER THE COURSE OF TODAY. AND INTO TOMORROW. SO WE ARE FOLLOWING, HOWEVER, WHAT’S GOING ON OUT HERE IN THE ATLANTIC. ANOTHER TROPICAL WAVE THAT’S GOT THE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPING INTO A TROPICAL SYSTEM, A MEDIUM CHANCE RIGHT NOW. AND AS I PUT THE GFS INTO MOTION, YOU CAN SEE IT DEVELOPING RIGHT THERE BY LATE SUNDAY AND INTO MONDAY. AND RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS GOING TO BE MORE OF AN ISSUE FOR TURKS AND CAICOS AND THE BAHAMAS. PROBABLY A WEEK FROM TODAY. SO WE’VE GOT OUR EYES ON THAT AND WE’LL LET YOU KNOW AS THINGS CHANGE. OTHERWISE NOT EXPECTING TOO MUCH ELSE TO OCCUR ACROSS THE ATLANTIC BASIN. OUR BIG ISSUE TODAY, ONCE AGAIN, IS THE HEAT ADVISORY HEAT INDEX VALUES UP TO ABOUT 112 DEGREES IN SOME PARTS OF OUR AREA. A POSSIBILITY FOR US TODAY. THE HEAT ADVISORY INCLUDES EVERYBODY IN SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA, HANCOCK AND PEARL RIVER COUNTIES. RAIN CHANCES ARE LOW ONCE AGAIN TODAY, SO THE COOLING RAINFALL, WELL, THAT’S NOT GOING TO BE AVAILABLE TO A LOT OF US. AND THERE’S PLENTY OF SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OUT THERE. IT’S OFFSHORE AND MOVING FURTHER AND FURTHER AWAY FROM US. YOUR TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW LOW 70S. IF YOU’RE ON THE NORTH SHORE, A GOOD MIX OF 70S AND LOW. 80S DOWN HERE ON THE SOUTH SHORE AND THIS AFTERNOON UNDER SOME MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES, I’M EXPECTING YOUR TEMPERATURES TO RISE INTO THE MID TO UPPER 90S. WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME SIMILAR NUMBERS FOR YOUR SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND LOOKS LIKE ON SUNDAY, MAYBE A SLIGHTLY BETTER CHANCE OF RAINFALL. UP TO ABOUT A 30% CHANCE. PRIMARILY DOWN HERE ON THE SOUTH SHORE AND WHERE IT DOESN’T RAIN. OF COURSE, THOSE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE IN THE MID TO UPPER 90S ONCE AGAIN. SO IF YOU’RE MAKING PLANS FOR THE RED DRESS RUN, PREPARE YOURSELF FOR SOME VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE HUMIDITY, WHILE IT’S GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT LOWER, IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A BIG ISSUE FOR YOU IF YOU ARE HEADED OUT FOR THE RED DRESS RUN AND IT’S AN ALL DAY EVENT AND THERE’S A LOT OF FOLKS GO FROM THE RED DRESS RUN TO DIRTY LINEN NIGHT, AND IT LOOKS LIKE AT 3:00, PROBABLY ABOUT 97 DEGREES DOWN ON MORIAL STREET AT THE START OF DIRTY LINEN NIGHT, 93 DEGREES AT 6 P.M., MAYBE FALLING INTO THE UPPER NIGHT UPPER 80S RATHER AS WE GO INTO THE EVENING. HERE’S A QUICK LOOK AT YOUR WDSU FIRST WARNING. SEVEN DAY FORECAST.

When and how to see the Perseid meteor shower this weekend

Catch the Perseid meteor shower this weekend

This weekend, you can see the Perseid meteor shower. It's a meteor shower that peaks around mid-August every year. According to NASA, you can see 50-100 meteors per hour during this event. The shower is best viewed at night and where there is not a lot of light interference. The good news for us is that it looks like our weather will be perfect for viewing! We're expecting partly cloudy skies. When To See It:The best time to view it would be at night on Sunday night, going into Monday before the sun rises. The moon sets at 11:34 p.m., which is when the sky will turn darker, allowing a better viewing of the meteor shower. You don't have to wait until that time. You can actually view it earlier, but the best visuals will be after that time. Where To See It:We'll be able to catch it in Southeast Louisiana. It's best to go to an area away from light pollution, so basically anywhere outside the city. Rural areas or parks would be best. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
