WELL, THE THE FOCUS THIS TIME AROUND IS CANCER RESEARCH. DESPITE THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, WDSU ANCHOR RANDI RANDI HAS THAT STORY. YEAH. THE PRESIDENT WILL BE TOUCHING DOWN TUESDAY TO SEE THE PROGRESS BEING MADE HERE IN LOUISIANA WHEN IT COMES TO HIS WHITE HOUSE INITIATIVE, CANCER MOONSHOT, WHICH HOPES TO ERADICATE CANCER BY 50% BY 2047. NOW HE IS EXPECTED TO VISIT LSU HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER WITH SEVERAL LOCAL LEADERS, SOMETHING THAT HIS WIFE DID LAST SPRING. CONGRESSMAN TROY CARTER WILL BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT, WHO SAYS RECENT FUNDING FROM THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT IS HELPING US MAKE SIGNIFICANT STRIDES, ESPECIALLY SINCE MANY OF OUR NEIGHBORS LIVE IN SO-CALLED CANCER ALLEY. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden are expected to travel to New Orleans today to attend a Biden Cancer Moonshot event.The Cancer Moonshot aims to prevent more than 4 million cancer deaths by 2047 and to improve the experience of people who are touched by cancer.Dr. Jill Biden last visited New Orleans in March of 2023, joining Mayor LaToya Cantrell, U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy and his wife at the Louisiana Cancer Research Center in New Orleans. It followed the relaunch of the Cancer Moonshot initiative. According to its website, to date, the Cancer Moonshot has announced more than 95 new programs, policies, and resources to address five priority actions.President Biden's visit to New Orleans comes weeks after announcing he will not seek reelection, and instead, is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nominee. The Democratic National Convention, where Harris is expected to accept the party's nomination, begins Aug. 19 in Chicago.
