Weather Impact Day: Heat sticks around with storms this afternoon
Another hot day but storms arrive later

STILL CONCERNED ABOUT THE HEAT PRIMARILY. YEAH WE ARE. AND LOOK AT THE SUN STARTING TO RISE FOR US THIS MORNING. SO GOING TO BE ANOTHER HOT DAY UP AHEAD. WE KNOW THAT IS NEW ORLEANS. IT’S THE SUMMER. BUT WE’RE ALSO LOOKING AT SOME CHANCES FOR RAIN IN YOUR FORECAST AS WELL. BUT I DO WANT TO START OFF WITH SOME GOOD NEWS. A LITTLE BIT OF GOOD NEWS. LET’S TALK ABOUT HOW IT FEELS OUTSIDE. WELL, AT LEAST AS FAR AS THE DEW POINTS GO. LOOK AT THIS 75. SO YESTERDAY WE WERE AT 78. TODAY WE’RE AT 75. LITTLE WINDS. WE CAN TAKE THOSE. IT DOES FEEL SLIGHTLY BETTER. BUT LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT IS A BIGGER WIN FOR US. SO GETTING INTO THE WEEKEND. SATURDAY WE TAKE A LITTLE DIP RISE AGAIN ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY. BUT THEN LOOK WHAT HAPPENS ON TUESDAY. WE START TO DIP EVEN MORE SO THINGS ARE GOING TO FEEL COMFORTABLE FOR US. WE HAVEN’T FELT THAT IN QUITE A WHILE, BUT WE’RE STILL GOING TO BE INTO THE 90S NEXT WEEK. SO TEMPERATURES, ACTUAL TEMPERATURES AREN’T GOING DOWN. BUT AT LEAST THE HUMIDITY IS GOING TO GO DOWN TEMPORARILY. ALL RIGHT. SO TODAY ANOTHER HEAT ADVISORY LOOKING AT FILLING UP TO 112 DEGREES. VERY POSSIBLE. I DON’T THINK ALL OF US WILL FEEL THAT HOT. AND JUST TO THE NORTH OF US, THEY’RE LOOKING AT AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING. NOW AS FAR AS RAIN GOES, WE’RE FINE. I DID SEE SOME COASTAL SHOWERS A LITTLE EARLIER THIS MORNING, BUT ALL OF THAT HAS KIND OF STAYED AWAY FROM US. THIS IS MOVING AWAY FROM THE COAST. SO THAT’S A HEADS UP FOR ANYBODY DOING SOME FISHING FOR TODAY. HEADING OFF TO WORK. COASTAL SHOWERS LEAVING YOU. BUT WE’RE GOING TO SEE SOME RAIN A LITTLE LATER ON. SO GET TO 10 A.M. MORNING, MAYBE A COUPLE COASTAL SHOWERS HERE AND THERE. NOT TOO BAD. GET TO NOON. WE’LL START TO SEE MORE. RIGHT NEAR GRAND ISLE. MAYBE SOME WILL POP UP ELSEWHERE AND THEN WE’LL KIND OF SEE THIS TREND CONTINUING INTO THE AFTERNOON. ONCE WE GET TO THE EVENING, LET’S SAY EARLY EVENING, 4 P.M., THAT’S WHEN WE’LL START TO SEE MORE OF THAT MOVE IN. AND SOME OF THIS COULD BE ON THE SEVERE SIDE. IT WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF WE DID GET SOME SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS WITH THIS. AND THEN LOOKING AT TERREBONNE PARISH, YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO GET THAT RAIN OVER AND OVER STARTING AT 4 P.M., FIVE. AND THEN STILL 6 P.M. SO I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THERE ARE SOME MAYBE QUICK LOCALIZED FLOODING HAPPENING IN THAT AREA FOR TODAY. AND THEN EVEN IF YOU DO GET SOME RAIN, THAT THOSE HEAVY DOWNPOURS COULD CAUSE SOME ISSUES OUT THERE ON ROADWAYS, LOCAL FLOODING ISSUES, AND THEN AFTER THAT WE’RE CLEARING OUT FOR THE NIGHT. SO NO ISSUES AT ALL. NOW. TEMPERATURES FOR US RIGHT NOW ARE INTO THE 70S, COUPLE OF 80S. NOT TERRIBLE AS I MENTIONED. IT DOES FEEL DIFFERENT OUT THERE. A LOT BETTER. BUT AS WE HEAD LATER INTO THE DAY, WE’RE STILL GOING TO BE WELL INTO THE ONE HUNDREDS AS FAR AS HOW IT WILL ACTUALLY FEEL. DO YOU HAVE THAT RAIN ICON? SO YES. GOING TO SEE THAT REALLY RAMP UP FOR US LATER. AND SO WE’RE ALREADY MENTIONING HURRICANE ERNESTO. HERE’S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE ON SATELLITE. IT IS ABOUT TO HEAD TOWARDS BERMUDA CIRCLED BERMUDA RIGHT HERE. AND LOOK AT THIS CATEGORY TWO YESTERDAY WAS EXPECTED TO BE A CATEGORY THREE. BUT THAT IS GOING TO STAY AT A CATEGORY TWO THAT WILL CONTINUE ON UP AND LIKELY BY TOMORROW. YOU HEAR SOME STORIES OUT OF BERMUDA ABOUT SOME OF THE IMPACTS THEY COULD SEE. THEY’VE GOT HURRICANE WARNINGS. IN EFFECT, THEY HAVE THOSE IN EFFECT YESTERDAY ACTUALLY. AND SO THIS THING IS MOVING AT 13MPH WINDS, 100MPH. SO THIS IS REALLY, REALLY MOVING. ALL RIGHT. NOW AS FAR AS THE REST OF THE FORECAST GOES FOR YOUR WDSU FIRST WARNING SEVEN DAY FORECAST LOOKING AT SOME 90S MID 90S, CONTINUING ON OUT. NOW YOU’LL NOTICE THE WEEKEND. SO FRIDAY WE HAVE AN IMPACT DAY TODAY SATURDAY WE DON’T. AND THEN SUNDAY WE DO. SO IF YOU REMEMBER THAT LITTLE DIP IN THE DEW POINTS WE’RE GOING TO SEE THAT DIP TOMORROW. JUST A SLIGHT DIP. NOT TOO BAD. AND THEN IT RETURNS TO US ON SUNDAY. SO HEA

Another hot day but storms arrive later
Updated: 7:08 AM CDT Aug 16, 2024
It's another Weather Impact Day due to another heat advisory where temperatures could feel as hot as 112. Afternoon thunderstorms will arrive later in the afternoon and evening. Much of the morning stays quiet. A few coastal showers are possible before noon. The bulk of pop-up showers will arrive late afternoon into the evening. Most of everything should clear by late evening. We could see some thunderstorms with gusty conditions at times. Temperatures may temporarily decrease over rain-cooled areas. Highs today will be in the low to mid 90s. Humidity decreases ever so slightly Saturday, so there's a subtle difference with how it will feel. Highs will still be in the mid 90s. There are a few chances for rain this weekend but not as much as we'll see today. Highs for the next several days will remain in the mid 90s. Looking ahead at Tuesday, there is a chance our dewpoints will decrease which will make us feel a whole lot better.
