A former maintenance man who worked for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office has been arrested and accused of taking an inmate to his home to buy weapons. According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's office, Donald Hammons, 56, was arrested Friday and booked with one count of malfeasance in office. Hammons has been working for the parish since 2010 until Sheriff Gerald Sticker took office in July. According to the sheriff's office, Hammons took a trustee inmate from the jail to the inmate's home to buy weapons back in 2021. When the sheriff questioned Hammons, he admitted to it and gave the weapons up. He was fired from his position, according to the sheriff's office.
