Ruby the sea otter made her debut Thursday at the Audubon Aquarium.The sea otter from Monterey, California joins Clara, an 8-year-old sea otter who has been at the aquarium since 2015. Before her public debut, Clara had been acclimating to her new environment behind-the-scenes in a 25,000-gallon sea otter habitat.Ruby was found abandoned as a day-old pup Sept. 12, 2015, the Audubon Nature Institute said. Wildlife experts said while she appeared well enough to be released, officials determined the pup wouldn't survive in the ocean on her own.With the help of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Sea Otter Program, Ruby made her way to New Orleans and her new home at the Audubon Aquarium."Audubon is known for its excellent management of sea otters in human care," said Beth Firchau, director of animal husbandry at the aquarium.
