Clothes Encounters

It’s almost time to share the love at Clothes Encounters!

Please join us on February 10, 11, 12  2023 for festive fun, fellowship, and fabulous shopping!

Celebrate love and raise funds for our church and charities.
Make a donation, take home a treasure! After all — all you need is love and a great outfit.

Please donate those treasures you’re not wearing…
high-quality new and gently-used women’s clothing,
jewelry, purses, scarves, and accessories (everything but shoes).

We’re also looking for some amazing silent auction items (anything wonderful…not just clothing).

Thank you from our hearts to yours.

“Clothes Encounters…from our closets to yours fundraiser, jointly sponsored by the two women’s alliance groups at First Unitarian Church of Dallas:  Women’s Evening Alliance (WEA) and Women’s Day Alliance (WDA).

The purpose of Clothes Encounters is to raise money to donate to our Church and to charities.  We collect gently-used women’s clothing and accessories of very good quality from alliance members and from members and friends of our Church.  People come to Clothes Encounters, enjoy fellowship and fun, and “make a donation, take home a treasure.”  All proceeds are divided equally between the Day and Evening Alliances.  Each alliance uses these funds for contributions to our Church and to charities chosen annually by alliance members.  Afterward, any clothing not chosen at the event is donated to CitySquare to benefit women throughout our community.

Over the years, the Women’s Day and Evening Alliances have donated all the proceeds from Clothes Encounters to our Church and to charities including:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dallas

Child Care Group

City House

DFW International

Echo Theatre

First Unitarian Church Coming of Age Youth Program

First Unitarian Church General Fund

First Unitarian Church Ministers’ Discretionary Fund

Girls, Inc.

Homeward Bound

Housing Crisis Center

Mashua Voice for the Voiceless International

Mommies In Need

Motherland Rhythm Community

Our Friends Place

Planned Parenthood

Resolana

Skill QUEST

TEA Fund

UU Women’s Federation

VNA

Vogel Alcove

Woven Health Clinic (formerly Metrocrest Community Clinic)

Each year, WEA gives half of its share of the Clothes Encounters proceeds to charities and half to the Ministers’ Discretionary Fund.  Dallas UU Senior Minister Reverend Daniel Kanter says, “The Ministers’ Discretionary Fund is used to help members of the church in times of need, and for special projects the ministers support.  The money goes directly to help people pay bills they can’t afford, get legal help, and sometimes to feed their families.  One example: A member of our church couldn’t afford to pay his electric bill, feed his children, and get his car fixed.  So the ministers helped relieve the pressure on his car repair.  That enabled him to get to work and also to cover the electric bill and food.  Occasionally the funds are used for loans to members to help them get past a difficult time in their lives and they pay them back to help others.  Sometimes projects include supporting UU organizations like an orphanage in India or anti-racism workshop.  Most of the money, however, goes directly to people in need.”

 Thank you for your support!
