Jonah Gilmore
Anchor/ReporterJonah Gilmore, a native New Orleanian, is back home after spending nearly a decade across the country.
Jonah joined WDSU as a Reporter in February 2024, returning home from WDSU’s sister station KETV in Omaha, Nebraska. There, he anchored the weekend morning show “First News Weekends.”
Jonah began his career at home, working as a production assistant at a local tv station. He then made his on-air debut at the NBC affiliate in Midland, Texas — making stops in Victoria, Texas, Mobile, Alabama, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Omaha, Nebraska.
Jonah is a proud graduate of Frederick A. Douglass High School located on St. Claude Ave. Attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Jonah credits Dillard University for his journalism foundation. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Dillard University in New Orleans and a Master of Arts in Professional Communication and Digital Media from Texas Southern University in Houston, TX.
Jonah has covered a range of stories including the controversial death of Ronald Greene, high profile crimes, corruption, and catastrophic hurricanes.
In December 2019, Jonah placed second in Baton Rouge’s Celebrity Lip-Sync battle, helping raise more than $31,000 benefiting the American Cancer Society. He has also participated in fundraisers for the NAACP and YWCA to help bail mothers out of jail during the holidays.
As a Children’s Defense Fund Beat the Odds Scholar, Jonah is an advocate for children’s survival, protection, and development.
No matter what city he lives in, Jonah is always ready to jump into the community, help and tell their stories as they become a part of his life’s journey.
Jonah is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club.
