Sharief always dreamed of returning to his hometown of New Orleans and finally gets his chance with his hiring at WDSU. Sharief was born in Baton Rouge, but spent most of his life growing up in Harvey. Sharief is a 2005 Graduate of Louisiana State University where he majored in broadcast journalism and minored in theater. Sharief started his career in 2005 when he was hired by WAFB in Baton Rouge as a part-time photographer. Then in 2007 he got his big break in his sports broadcasting career becoming the weekend sports anchor and reporter at KALB in Alexandria. After one year on the job, Sharief was promoted to sports director. During his time in central Louisiana, he covered the LSU Tigers’ 2007 National Championship team as well as the New Orleans Saints’ run to Super Bowl XLIV. Sharief says covering the team he grew up watching was a dream come true, and he scratched that off his bucket list. He actually drove 16 hours from Alexandria to Miami to cover the franchise’s first Super Bowl title. He says it’s a week he will never forget and still talks about it today. In the summer of 2010, Sharief returned to his birthplace of Baton Rouge, as WAFB came calling for his services, and Sharief answered that call. He came on as the sports reporter and anchor where he enjoyed three solid years in the capital city. Sharief covered a wide range of sports for WAFB, everything from the Saints, Hornets, LSU, Southern University, Southeastern Louisiana and high school football. He worked on a weekly 30-minute high school football show as well a ton of sports specials. His all-time favorite moment at WAFB was covering the LSU baseball team’s run to the 2013 College World Series in Omaha. Although the Tigers didn’t win it all, it was on Sharief’s bucket list to make it to Omaha to cover the school he attended. So if you’re keeping count, that’s two things off his bucket list. In August 2013, Sharief returned home to New Orleans when he was hired by WDSU, where he plans on continuing his TV career for a long time to come.

Something interesting about Sharief, well, he speaks Arabic. The most interesting thing is about Sharief, he wishes he can be a chef. Sharief spends a lot of time watching Top Chef and The Food Network. Feel free to ask him how his cooking is going since he watches a lot of those shows. When Sharief isn’t working, which is very rare, he spends a lot of time working out, hanging with friends, and of course trying to cook something other than baked chicken, steamed veggies and baked potatoes. Sharief wishes he could learn how to cook an unlimited amount of Sour Patch Kids. Sharief is excited to be part of the great WDSU staff and work alongside Fletcher Mackel as they cover the Saints, LSU, Tulane, and New Orleans Pelicans.
